#7 of 9 hotels in South Hotel Zone by Axel's take. South Hotel Zone is #6 of 7 places to stay in Tulum. The best hotels in South Hotel Zone, ranked · Where to stay in Tulum

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong beachfront pick for art lovers, with some luxury-level inconsistencies. an art-filled luxury boutique hotel on Tulum’s beachfront, scored for what it is.

Casa Malca is an art-filled luxury boutique hotel at the southern end of Tulum’s beach strip. It’s a strong pick if you want contemporary art, generously sized suites and a well-maintained beachfront rather than a conventional resort. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, cleanliness and thoughtful staff; the underground Grotto pool gives the amenities genuine character.

The trade-off is that luxury service isn’t uniformly polished: some Tripadvisor guests describe forgotten requests at breakfast and on the beach, despite the broadly positive feedback. On-site dining also draws complaints about poor value. Expedia lists a service fee, so check what your booking includes. We’d skip it if flawless service or easy access to Tulum town matters more than art and beach time.

Best for: art and design lovers; couples prioritizing beach time; families wanting spacious suites
Watch out for: uneven breakfast and beach service; expensive on-site dining; distance from Tulum town
Location: Beachfront near Sian Ka’an; Tulum town is roughly 10 kilometers away.
Rooms: Spacious suites and comfortable beds earn consistent praise; choose garden or ocean views carefully.
Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent guest accounts.
Service: Warm, responsive concierge staff stand out, though some guests report forgotten dining and beach requests.
Amenities: Beach loungers, outdoor and Grotto pools, restaurants, a rooftop spa and a gym.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a 10% service fee; a November 2025 guest reported side-of-property construction, but its current status is unconfirmed.
