Axel’s rating: 8.7/10 · a design-led 4-star hotel in central Waikiki, not on the beach
The Laylow is a design-led 4-star in central Waikiki, and a strong pick if you'd rather have character and restaurants nearby than a beachfront resort. Its mid-century interiors have personality, rooms offer king beds and private lanais, and the beach is a short walk away. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, comfortable rooms and cleanliness. Hideout's open-air dining and the daily cultural activities give it more appeal than a straightforward city hotel.
The main compromise is noise: guests report music from the hotel and nearby nightlife reaching rooms, sometimes even higher up. The pool is also relatively small and can be shaded, so this isn't the place for sprawling, sunny pool days. Factor in the mandatory daily destination fee and paid valet parking. We'd skip it for an early-to-bed beach holiday; it suits travelers who enjoy Waikiki's bustle.

Its mid-century interiors have personality, rooms offer king beds and private lanais, and the beach is a short walk away. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, comfortable rooms and cleanliness. Hideout's open-air dining and the daily cultural activities give it more appeal than a straightforward city hotel.
The main compromise is noise: guests report music from the hotel and nearby nightlife reaching rooms, sometimes even higher up.
