A strong central base, with better comfort than dorm privacy A design-led budget hostel with dorms and private rooms in central Madrid, scored for what it is.
Bastardo is a design-led budget hostel, not a conventional hotel, and it’s a strong pick for exploring Madrid without paying for full-service extras. Between Malasaña and Chueca, near Tribunal metro, it combines dorms with private and family rooms. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location, cleanliness and helpful staff. The downstairs Limbo restaurant and bar give it more life than a basic place to sleep.
The compromises are mostly hostel ones: dorm beds lack curtains, bathrooms are shared within the room, and towels cost extra when booking an individual bed. The guest kitchen is better for reheating than serious cooking. Recent Hostelworld guests also say the busy public spaces don’t necessarily translate into easy socializing. We’d choose it for independent sightseeing or a group trip, but skip the dorms if privacy is essential.
