Historic character and warm hospitality near UT, with a few rough edges.
Hotel Ella is a historic 4-star boutique hotel near UT Austin, and a strong pick for travelers who prefer character to a big downtown tower. Its columned porch, courtyard pool and intimate bar are the draw. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, cleanliness and friendly staff. Choose your room carefully: the hotel says only nine rooms occupy the original mansion; most are in the newer North Wing.
The trade-off is uneven polish rather than a lack of charm. Recent Tripadvisor reviews describe slow restaurant service and some tired room details, while expensive valet parking draws complaints across sites. Private events can restrict pool access, which management acknowledges, so check your dates before booking a poolside room. We'd skip it if seamless luxury service or guaranteed pool time matters more than atmosphere and campus convenience.

Best for: UT visitors; Couples who like historic hotels; Small-scale boutique stays
Watch out for: Expensive valet parking; Private-event restrictions on pool access; Uneven restaurant service
Location: West Campus location suits UT visits better than being in the middle of downtown nightlife.
Rooms: Mansion and North Wing rooms differ; comfortable beds earn praise, but some guests mention wear.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength overall, supported by strong cleanliness ratings on Expedia and Booking.com.
Service: Warm staff are a recurring highlight; restaurant service is less consistent.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, Parlor Bar and Goodall’s Kitchen; the official site lists restaurant dinner Thursday–Saturday only.
Fees and surprises: Valet parking and pets cost extra; confirm pool availability and step-free access before arrival.
