Hacienda del Rio is a renovated, motel-style riverfront hotel that offers considerably more outdoor fun than a basic two-star stay. Reopened after a major makeover in 2025, it pairs colorful rooms with Guadalupe River access, a pool, sports courts and a poolside restaurant. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly praise the welcoming staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. It's a strong pick for families and couples who would rather spend their time outside than in a hotel room.

The distinction is expectations: this remains an older roadside property, not a secluded upscale resort. Some guests mention traffic noise, and room layouts and finishes aren't universally loved. Gruene Hall is a short drive rather than right outside. We'd skip it for luxury or guaranteed quiet; choose it for easy river days and plenty to do on site.
