Galway Bay Hotel is a traditional, family-friendly 4-star overlooking Salthill’s promenade, and a strong pick for a coastal break rather than a city-centre stay. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds and breakfast. The indoor pool, gym and on-site dining make it easy to spend time here between seaside walks; free parking is another practical plus.
The main compromise is uneven room condition. Management confirms that dining spaces and some bedrooms and bathrooms have been refurbished, but others still await updating. Ask for a renovated room, and note that there’s no air-conditioning: several guests describe warm bedrooms. Central Galway is roughly a half-hour walk or a bus ride away.
